Our To Do List for this Olympic weekend
It’s Olympics Time!
Oh, you already knew? Well, if you’re not going to be glued to the telly, or swanking around the Olympic park with your collector’s item tickets, we’ve lined up a special Olympic Weekend To Do List, featuring Hotel Medea, Deptford X, Club Motherfucker and John Peel’s Shed. Or you could just have your own Opening Ceremony party. Whatever you do, make your Olympics weekend unforgettable!
1. Hotel Medea & Zero Hour Market | Friday 27 & Saturday 28 July | 11.30pm-6am (includes breakfast | Southbank Centre | £40 (worth it!)
We were lucky enough to experience this absolutely mind-blowing interactive theatrical experience from midnight until dawn last Saturday.
Persis-Jade Maravala and Zecora Ura’s extraordinary, interactive, promenade re-telling of the marriage of Medea and Jason features: a vibrant Brazilian party, a soundtrack by internationally renowned DJ Dolores, a quasi-religious ritual, a participatory cabaret show, live video technology and steaming cups of hot chocolate. The show disintegrates barriers between performers and the audience, and together they create a frenzied maze of food, blood and dance before sharing breakfast at dawn. ps. If you don’t want the all night experience you can do the first part with 50% off tickets courtesy of MasterCard here.

2. Opening Ceremony – London 2012 Olympics | Friday 27 July from 8pm | At Home/Out | FREE (Well, if you’re not a taxpayer…)
We saw a rehearsal on Monday night of what promises to be a completely bonkers and oh-so-British Opening Ceremony. Watch it at home with a keg or seven, or head out to an OC party, our favourite being Opening Ceremony Bingo at STK.
3. Club Motherfucker featuring Teengirl Fantasy | Saturday 28 July from 9pm | Corsica Studios | £7
Hear the offbeat sounds of Teengirl Fantasy, Becoming Real, Seams and Eaux, live at the arty party we love to bop along to.
4. Deptford X | All weekend | All over Deptford, Saarf London (bring swagga!) | FREE
Explore South of the river within the safe confines of art galleries and great events all around Deptford in our favourite art festival. FORGET FRIEZE, DEPTFORD X IS THE REAL THANG. View our article here on Gallery Closed Studio Open for more about our highlight of this years Deptford X. Check out Deptford X’s gorgeous new website here too!
5. John Peel’s Shed | Friday 27 – Sunday 29 at 8pm | Soho Theatre | £10/12.50
We loved the gentle and honest blurb about this show at Soho Theatre: “In 2002, John Osborne won a competition on John Peel’s Radio One show. His prize was a box of records that took eight years to listen to. This five-star, sell-out smash theatre hit of the Edinburgh Festival, adapted for BBC Radio Four and broadcast in 2011, is an ode to radio, those records and anyone who’s ever sought solace in wireless.”

I am Joint Editor at To Do List. I like free, cheap & offbeat London, especially: cabaret, art, theatre, pop-ups, eating out, quirky films, museums, day trips, social enterprise & much more.
