First Ever To Do List Awards Announced – Celebrating Unsung Heroes of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe!
No cheesy awards ceremony (we can’t afford it), no cringe speeches, no bitchy looks from the runners up… Just our BEST OF THE EDINBURGH FRINGE AWARDS, Part 1. The recipients have won a 10cm high trophy and a mini certificate, so it’s HIGH STAKES!
Without further ado, here’s our award-winning pick of the underdogs and offbeat treats that you just have to check out at the Fringe!
BEST FRINGE FOOD AWARD
WINNER: CIVERINOS SLICE

Perfect festival food at a bargain price for the quality and top taste of their specialty New York-style pizza. Special mention for a team of outstanding staff who are welcoming, slick and give you great vibes in this hip hang out.
Runners up: Greggs (for the Vegan Sausage Roll), Red Box Noodle Bar and Traverse Theatre Bar.
BEST FRINGE VENUE AWARD
WINNER: ZOO VENUES

Zoo Venues is our standout fringe venue this year, with a suitably unusual, epic and eclectic programme curated with panache.
Every staff member is a valued member of the team and the environments created for shows are special, giving a community feel to an occasionally over-corporate festival.
BEST FRINGE BAR AWARD
WINNER: CANADA HUB

A surprisingly (natural) green space for your pre- or post-show boozing, the CanadaHub bar is a gorgeous oasis of a spot – perfect for chilling out and working out what to see next (or whether to just hit the bottle!).
UNSUNG HERO AWARD
WINNER: LUCY HOPKINS

Lucy Hopkins gives a triumphant performance in her show, Ceremony of Golden Truth – read our ★★★★★ review here.
Hopkins is a phenomenal performer and should be recognized as a leading golden comedy light in a sea of grey, pale, male, and stale.
BEST PLACE TO STAY AWARD
WINNER: HUB BY PREMIER INN EDINBURGH HAYMARKET

Finding a decent Edinburgh hotel during August (which isn’t going to drastically increase your credit card debt) is a nightmare. Hub by Premier Inn was a delightful tech-savvy surprise, which felt like a real home at the Fringe.
Modern, fresh, and affordable, this hotel is different from the average in Edinburgh – not forgetting the enchanting staff, free (proper) coffee and premium movies for when you can’t face another show!
Do you have a Fringe secret that deserves recognition?
Leave a comment and we may pick it for our To Do List awards Part 2…

I am Joint Editor at To Do List. I like free, cheap & offbeat London, especially: cabaret, art, theatre, pop-ups, eating out, quirky films, museums, day trips, social enterprise & much more.
