10am – Kayak on the Lea
Stroll across Tottenham Marshes, the first home of Tottenham Hotspur and the flood plain of the River Lea, past dystopic allotments managed by Living Under One Sun and a beautiful assortment of barges. 11am – Run riot at IKEA
No trip to N17 is complete without a visit to IKEA, the lumbering warehouse is an Aladdin’s cave of flatpack and scandi-chic. Impossible to come away empty handed.
1pm – Gorge on ChickenTown
If you didn’t succumb to meatballs get the 192 bus to Tottenham Green, the historic fiscal heart of Tottenham, flanked by the Bernie Grant Arts Centre and Tottenham Town Hall, ChickenTown flash-fries steamed chicken from an old fire station. ‘Sas’ is hard to beat even with the 34 other fast food places jostling for your lunch money, Tottenham Green Market (on Sunday not Saturday but let’s not ruin the article’s Saturday vibes – thanks to Deidre on Twitter for pointing this out) should furnish you with plenty of pudding and cheese options.
2pm – Take in the sights and sounds of the Retail Park
The most profitable retail park in the country, nip to Lidl for the cheese twist or cookie and nip past Craving Coffee’s cart if you’re in need of a pick me up.
3pm – Beavertown Brewery
Off the beaten track this is a gonzo beer guzzlers’ Mecca hidden behind Hale Village. Their taproom lets you sample their Bloody ‘ell, Gamma Ray and Smog Rocket straight from the Beaver’s mouth. With a 2/3rd costing only £2.50 it’s a one-way trip to falling in the Lea after a few hours.
6pm – STYX
An urban Oasis, STYX plays host to comedy on Wednesdays, acoustic music on Thursdays and a selection of parties and theatre scattered through the rest of the week. Run by theatre-company RIFT and housed in an ex-ambulance depot complete with a venetian inspired beer garden (including canal and bridge) STYX rounds off the perfect day in Tottenham with a local beer and a belly laugh.
