Prometheus Awakes – Incredible Free Show by Graeae & La Fura dels Baus

We say: We love the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival as it’s free and fantastically epic. This year the programming team have outdone themselves with the amazing ‘Prometheus Awakes’, by the incredible Graeae and La Fura dels Baus, which will take place on  Friday 22 June 2012 at 10pm. SAVE THE DATE!

Graeae just had an amazing tour of ‘Reasons To Be Cheerful’, a musical with the songs of Ian Dury and the Blockheads, and are an incredible force in British theatre.

La Fura dels Baus are famous for their raw, brutal and incredible shows including XXX (which was at the Riverside Studios a while ago) and La Grand Macabre (an ENO opera). Find out more about their work which includes installations, big scale shows and even spectacles for Privilege in Ibiza.

They say: “You will feel the earth move and the sky explode as a ten metre high Prometheus arises from the ground and creates fire and humanity in defiance of the God Zeus. Prometheus Awakes, an exhilarating re-interpretation of the legendary Greek myth unfolds against the stunning backdrop of the beautiful 17th century Queen’s House in the grounds of the Royal Museums Greenwich, a world heritage site.

Prometheus Awakes will inspire audiences with extraordinary stagecraft, giant puppets, mass choreography and special effects. Created by Graeae, the boldly inventive disabled-led theatre company, in collaboration with Catalan masters of visual magnificence La Fura dels Baus. Directed by Amit Sharma featuring large scale digital projections by Simon Mckeown and original composition by Jules Maxwell Prometheus Awakes will be the first ever large-scale outdoor theatre production in this country that is led by disabled artists.

Disabled and non-disabled professional and volunteer performers recruited from local boroughs will take to the air in this thrilling piece of outdoor theatre for an audience of thousands.

Prometheus Awakes is part of the London 2012 Festival, a spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration from 21 June and running until 9 September 2012 bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.”
