Post Standard Letters For Free on Sunday 6 May at Stanley Gibbons

For the second year running, London legend, Stanley Gibbons on the Strand will be celebrating all things philatelic!

Forget the throwaway world of Snapchat and send something truly special at Stanley Gibbons for free this Sunday 6 May 2018.

The day is held to commemorate the world’s first ever-adhesive stamp, the Penny Black.   The stamp was first issued on 1st May 1840 and officially used from 6th May 1840.

National Stamp Celebration Day is about driving awareness for a wonderful hobby and engaging people in one of the UK’s biggest inventions. Even to this day, we don’t have to have the name of our country on the stamps, as people expect that they originated in Great Britain.

To celebrate National Stamp Celebration Day 2018, there will be events held across London and the UK.

  • The ABPS will be hosting open meetings to celebrate throughout May.  To find your local event head to their website www.abps.org.uk
  • Stanley Gibbons will once again be giving you the opportunity to post your letters for free!
  • Similarly to last year, we will be encouraging people to stick a stamp, urging offices to use stamps rather than franking machines & to celebrate the event with a bespoke sticker.

Rick Warren, Chairman of The Philatelic Traders’ Society Limited comments

“We are delighted to be once again celebrating the stamp collecting and raising awareness for philately.  It is important that we remember the Penny Black and how it changed the history of post and, so many years later keeps bringing people together to share their enthusiasm for the hobby.”
