Pigs Fly Easy Ryan at Edinburgh Fringe ★
★ Pigs Fly Easy Ryan | Underbelly Cowgate
An abominable hour of plane painful absurdism.
The show’s middle-Saturday start was delayed by 10 minutes, which left for a fidgety audience – and it did not bode well for this budget flight-attendant themed nude shitshow.
Two air hostess pigs (literally) talk nonsense about things like ‘service mode’ alongside a euro techno soundtrack, which gives momentary respite from the prolonged and pointless speeches. The show is best described as an infuriating headf*ck – which, on our visit, saw no fewer than eight audience members leave mid-show – where a highlight is the appearance of a giant inflatable slide appears – and health and safety goes out the window with a painful sounding thud.
Pigs Fly Easy Ryan is perhaps referencing the messed up world we live in, with clips of ‘pigs’ like Trump shown TikTok style – but the overall pace is painfully slow. With quicker, subliminal imagery, the show might have been palatable as a satire of the budget airline or porcine personalities running the world, but it really did make this reviewer angry for all the wrong reasons. It felt like a self-indulgent, juvenile, art school performance with no editing or awareness of the audience’s basic needs. It needed someone honest to ask, “but why?”
Don’t see this show unless you have a crash fetish.
