Nigel Ng ‘Cultureshocked’ Comedian Would Delete Wagamama from London – Interview
We caught up with Nigel Ng (pronounced ‘uh-ng‘) to talk about his upcoming show at Soho Theatre.
He gave us some priceless food tips and has a stern warning for Wagamama.
Tell us about your show CULTURE SHOCKED. What should we expect?
It’s an hour-long stand-up comedy show about cultural differences and trying to adapt to British culture.
What/who are your influences for writing and performing comedy?
Ali Wong, Jo Koy, Ronnie Chieng.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into stand up?
Just do it.
Everybody bombs, and it’s a horrible feeling, but if you want to try it go sign up at an open mic and give it a shot.
Do you have any tips for people wanting to explore Malaysia?
Penang has the best food in the country (they’re very proud of that fact). Most people there speak English so getting around won’t be a problem.
Tips: try to eat at hawker stalls/street food stalls as much as you can.
What are your favourite London haunts? (to eat/to be entertained/to party)
Koya Soho for the best udon.
Happy Lamb for the best hotpot.
Nopi if you have friends who’re vegan/allergic to everything.
If you could were Mayor of London for the day what would you try and change about the city?
Shut down all the Wagamama’s and replace them with proper Asian restaurants.
