Lorraine Bowen's Right Royal To Do List

Lorraine Bowen’s Right Royal To Do List

To celebrate this most regal of weekends, we asked Lorraine Bowen (the Casio Organ Queen) know to let us know what’s on her To Do List…

You can check out Lorraine’s website here – and check out the video at the bottom of the page, for our favourite Lorraine Bowen song!

Tell us about your favourite secret/offbeat places in London (food, going out, entertainment, relaxation)?

Eating? Well I’ve always been a supporter of the ‘Little Guy’, the small places that go on and on without advertising etc… so I’ll big up the small Turkish pizza places in Dalston where I lived for 20 years!  There’s one place especially that only has 3 tables and a proper coal-fired oven.  Oooh, and I must mention the café/restaurant opposite Neasden Temple who I’m sure served me crushed cannabis leaves in a Hindu Festival menu – I was stoned out of my box!

What offbeat events are on your To Do List in the next month or so?

Offbeat events on my To Do List in the next month include being the Queen at Duckie on June 2nd, performing with Ida Barr at the South Bank on Wed 6th, visiting one of my fave seaside towns, Bexhill On Sea (there’s always something going on at the De La Warr Pavilion) and I thought I’d gatecrash a Jubilee party in some godforsaken village in the middle of nowhere and have a nice relaxing day out and pretend to be from Number 14!

What are your favourite things to do for free or little money in London?

Free or little money?  Singing heartily while crossing the Millennium Bridge; marvelling at London and feeling the history of the place; going to something free at the Southbank (there’s always something on – I learnt to Lindy Hop last time); a free cycle ride for twenty nine minutes to Berwick Street; and dance round at least 3 street lamps while singing my song “I Love London”!

What’s your ultimate London confession?

I arrived in 1984, stayed until the bendy buses came and was so horrified said I’d only come back when they had gone – THE TIME HAS COME!

What event or product of your own would you like to pimp on To Do List?

If I was to pimp something, then I’d say everyone should listen to my song “I Love London” while swinging round lamp posts in Soho!  I wrote it for that reason!

We love Lorraine’s To Do List – and we also love this song, which is our favourite Bowen extravaganza… You’ll be singing this one forever!
