Interview: SE Londoner Sox Talks Treacles Residency
As Treacles prepares to takeover Deptford’s The Five Bells Pub (SE14 5DJ) in February, we caught up with founder Sox – proud to represent the FLINTA and QPOC communities – to talk Treacles, influences, positive vibes, and Unmissable Things To Do in London!

Hi Sox, thanks for taking the time to talk with us. Tell us about Treacles – how did it come about?
Treacles was born out of a passion to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for the queer community and allies in Southeast London – a place where everyone can truly be themselves and celebrated.
What can people look forward to at your Little Nan’s Bar takeover in Deptford?
At the residency, we offer something for everyone. Whether it’s a workshop, a club night, or a cozy space to socialise and connect, our doors are open to create experiences that bring people of all backgrounds, genders, and ages together.
What are your influences and motivations for making it happen?
With the queer venues that once shaped us now gone, we’ve noticed a void in the community we love and cherish. Southeast London is richly diverse, and we want Treacles to be the space where everyone can unapologetically be themselves.
What advice would you give to those going out to your nights, to make the most of it?
To make the most of your time at Treacles, come with an open mind, a positive vibe, and a willingness to connect. Engage in the events and don’t be afraid to start a conversation. Most importantly, respect the space and the people in it. Bring your energy, your curiosity, and get ready for a great time!
What are your favourite London haunts? (To eat, to go out, to meet up etc.)
Of course we have to give a shout-out to some of Southeast London’s local gems: Little Nan’s is a no-brainer – great vibes, banging tunes, and a guaranteed good time every visit. And, of course, we can’t forget our favourite pub, The Old Nun’s Head.
Occasionally the To Do List team are forced to work together.
Rupert likes: free, cheap & offbeat London, especially: cabaret, art, theatre, pop-ups, eating out, quirky films, museums, day trips, social enterprise & much more.
Stuart likes: nice pubs, film marathons, not doing real marathons, bad comedy, plays/musicals with shorter second halves, and the Oxford comma.
