Interview with Prince of Peckham – Clement Ogbonnaya
We caught up with local legend Clement Ogbonnaya about his new pub venture Prince of Peckham.
We particularly like the sound of Hot Mess Mondays where you can get 12 wings for £10.
How did Prince of Peckham come about? Have you always wanted to run a pub?
Prince of Peckham came about through my longing to own a London, more importantly, a South East London pub. As I’ve grown up community has become so much more important to me. And a pub that serves the community as a whole, was very important. The name Prince of Peckham came about because of my love for an old school sitcom Desmond’s which was based in Peckham and was just a reflection of all the characters and the strength of one spot that serves the whole community. Lee ‘The Peckham Prince’ was my favourite character so I thought why not?!
If you could have anyone be a regular at your gaff who would it be and why?
Oh wow, tough question. I would say everyone but if I could have anyone person it would be the late great Desmond’s himself (fictional character) and Trigger from Only Fools and Horses. Charming, funny and full of stories.
What advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur in London?
Fear holds a lot of aspiring entrepreneurs back. As cliché as it sounds, you just can’t be afraid. Planning is key and understanding your market, but a new business is frightening, but if you follow your plan and your confident and received the necessary advice and guidance, then there’s nothing to be afraid of.
