Interview: Matteo Mariotti from Megazine – New Art Zine

We caught up with the Matteo Mariotti from the team at Megazine, a London zine howcasing selected artworks by new and upcoming local talent. The work ranges from photography, design, art, illustration and everything else in between.

The idea is that each issue brings together 40 London based creatives, giving them the space for self-expression without boundaries. The unique thing is that there is no text, just the artworks and credit to the artists themselves.

Every copy of the zine is free and distributed at select locations around London.

Megazine

Tell us about Megazine. How did it come about? What should we expect?

My friend Rafa and I were thinking about how to decorate the city with artworks, a way to share art for free. And we also wanted to help low key creatives like ourselves get their work exposed. So, we decided to print a little Zine, that’s Mega inside.

Megazine, is a London zine that brings together 40 local artists. There is no text or explanation, only the artworks and the artists themselves, along with a link to more of their work at the bottom of the page.

What other zines should our readers check out?

Femzine London, Fuck this life, Zug Magazine.

What kind of artists are you looking for and what advice would you give to those thinking of submitting their work?

We are focused on upcoming artists, London based and in the surrounding areas. You can submit photography, illustration, typography, and everything else in between.

My advice is give it a shot, it doesn’t cost anything. We all know that not everyone can be who they want to be, but maybe you can. Carefully read the info on our submission page and send us up to five images of your best work.

What are your favourite London haunts? (To see art, to eat, to go out)

Just pay attention when you’re walking around, street art is everywhere. Spitalfields Market has a great selection of street food. To go out, Brick Lane is always a good idea.
