Sketch comedy duo Egg – Anna Leong Brophy and Emily Lloyd-Saini – are back after a pandemic-induced absence and nothing has changed….except it has.
‘Absolutely Fine’ is an hour of energetic sketch, interspersed with the two discussing (and avoiding discussing) whether or not they’re going to let their real lives – a break up and a baby, respectively – interfere with their work together. This conflict is used as a frame and infects some of the sketches, and helps ground the show in a complex emotional reality.
If some sketches are pushed to their limits, or feel a little familiar, it doesn’t really matter. Leong Brophy & Lloyd-Saini’s chemistry and energy pull us along, and their portrayal of the complexities of female friendship – and how you maintain that when life is pulling you in different directions – make it a highly enjoyable hour.
