Circus Fest at the Roundhouse – £5 Tickets & Free Exhibition
We are very excited about Roundhouse’s absolutely mind-boggling Circus Fest. It’s a month-long celebration of one of the oldest forms of entertainment in the world, with mind-blowing performances from around the world.
Here’s our pick of what’s cheap and exceedingly spectacular:
Cirkus Cirkör: Undermän | Tuesday 10-Saturday 14 April
A very simple and beautiful show about the relationships between circus performer pairs. The Underman is the person who has to hold the other performer in acrobatics.
To Do List was there for the opening night, and we were mesmerised by the beautiful, poetic performances. A combination of achingly beautiful folk music, highly skilled acrobatics and good old-fashioned storytelling, Undermän had us captivated from the start.
Beards, checked shirts, tales of love lost and found – what’s not to love? This isn’t your average circus show, this is something a bit special.
See below for a gallery of pictures of men in checked shirts.
£5 Tickets available for under 25s just call the Roundhouse on 0844 482 8008.
Professor Vanessa’s Wondershow | Monday 23-Sunday 29 April
Step back in time as the Main Space is transformed into a timeless village green for a magical immersive carnival experience that celebrates the golden era of circus. Curated by the rather amazing Vanessa Toulmin, Director of the National Fairground Archive in Sheffield and one of the world’s leading experts on the history of the art form it should be wonderful! You can peek at the headless lady if you dare, marvel at the girl in the goldfish bowl, feel the power of Electra, the 27,000 volt girl and gaze with wonder at the spectacle that unfolds around you.
The show features an enviable line up of artists from the circus, cabaret and variety world including Miss Behave, Marawa The Amazing, Jon Marshall and his Sideshow Illusions and The Insect Circus.
£5 Tickets available for under 25s just call the Roundhouse on 0844 482 8008.
Scottee: CAMP | 14th, 21st and 28th April
Variety show a la Blue Peter, this night will include in-house dance troupe Japans People in-between super show offs that include: Ursula Martinez, Jonny Woo, Mat Fraser, Bourgeois & Maurice, Dickie Beau, Bryony Kimmings, Fancy Chance, Ryan Styles, Titti La Camp, Wilfredo, Bagdad’s Got Talent, David Mills, Jess Love, Myra Dubois, Nando Messias, Russella, Gloria Swansong and Marisa Carnesky’s Finishing School.
They say “Camp is a mixed bill show of camp clichés, television re-enactments and good old-fashioned light entertainment that has nothing whatsoever to do with the c word, cabaret.”
£5 Tickets available for under 25s just call the Roundhouse on 0844 482 8008.
ps. don’t miss the lovely exhibition of circus photography in the Roundhouse Foyer.
