9 Cheap & Lovely Restaurants in Central London

The To Do List Tasty guide to eating out on a budget. And not a McDonalds in sight!

(Not that we’re against an occasional Quarter Pounder with Cheese. But, ya know, we like to keep up the pretence of class…) Here are nine great places to eat for not too many pennies – many are chains, but we’ve picked out our favourite branches. Go, eat, and be merry!

Chilango-Restaurant-600x433

Chilango | Islington | 27 Upper Street N1 0PN

Super tasty Mexican food on the go – we first discovered Chilango on the way to a show at the Old Red Lion Theatre, and it remains the benchmark for all of our pre-theatre burrito experiences.

Food for Thought | Covent Garden | 31 Neal Street WC2H 9PR

Veg-o-rama! Almost 40 years old, and still going strong – a menu that changes daily, and portions to keep you full all day. This is not a health-food place, it’s a super tasty, comfort food place.

gbk

Gourmet Burger Kitchen | Bankside | Soho Wharf, Clink Street SE19DG

We love this brach of the burgeoning burger chain, it’s the only one we’ve found so far where you get table service, and the staff are brill. Keep an eye out on Vouchercloud for offers, or download the GBK app to unlock amazing discounts.

Itsu | Holborn | 236 High Holborn WC1V 7DN

Super-healthy chain Itsu is perfect for fab feasts at a bargain price – get yourself a Potsu and slurp away!

jimmys-wimbledon

Jimmy’s World Grill & Bar | The O2 | Millennium Way SE10 0DX

You know when you want curry, and noodles, and chilli, and tofu, and pizza, and fish… This is your place. Eat til you split.

The Ledger Building | West India Quay | 4 Hertsmere Road E14 4AL

Yes, it’s a Wetherspoons, but it’s one of the nice ones. Pefect for tasty, cheap and quick dinner before or after catching a film at the nearby Cineworld.

little-sicily

Little Sicily | Soho | 36-40 Rupert Street W1D 6DW

The amazing (and damn near constant) deal on Vouchercloud (50% off and free bottle of wine) makes this place worth a visit – watch out for the pre-theatre crowd though, they tend to book up a lot of tables.

Maoz | Soho | 43 Old Compton Street W1D 6HG

We can’t get enough Maoz falafel – tasty, (kinda) healthy treats with as much salad as you can squeeze into a pita. Makes us grin!

moolis

Mooli’s | Soho | 50 Frith Street W1D 4SQ

Delicious Indian deli wraps, and bargainous too – £5.25 for a Chicken Wrap.
