Charlene Kaye shreds up the racist idea of the ‘diversity hire’ in the music industry.

Musical comedy stand up Charlene Kaye is stuck always having to accept shredding (being a boss on the electric guitar) behind a ‘dumb little white boy’ and she’s tired of it. Her non-stop musical comedy is fast, funny and fresh keeping the audience in the palm of her hand. The show tells often woeful quirky tales of micro-aggressions in yet another industry controlled by white dude singers and white girl divas who she impersonates to a crowd roaring with laughter. Kaye successfully rips usually untouchable white divas to shreds from Taylor Swift to Chappell Roan.

The show’s politics are light but make you think, challenging Orientalism by white people in pop with obvious examples like The Vapors catchy yet cringe and racist ‘Turning Japanese’ and even Kaye’s idol Bowie with ‘China Girl’. Rather than work in the regressive music industry that doesn’t treat women of colour well she powerfully takes the mic and becomes a stand up. And boy does she deserve a world tour. This queer stadium rock diva isn’t done yet.

In Diversity Shredder Charlene Kaye takes control of her destiny in a hilarious ear worm of an hour.
