An exhilaratingly pointed queering of the androcentric world of economics which should be required watching for anyone who still thinks that capitalism is doing just fine.

BOY Theatre – Maria Telnikoff, Kit Miles and Cherry Eckel – pull off an exhilarating balancing act, combining slapstick buffoonery with unapologetically personal stories of falling victim to the systems that control our lives.

CAMPITALISM is, at least superficially, a merciless lampoon of the finance bros who condescend to tell us that they know best, and that there really is no other way to do things. Gradually, though, each of the cast emerge from behind their outrageously camp cartoon figures (Brian, Brian and Brian) to paint a different story: the real pain and suffering that unbridled capitalism causes on a daily basis.

The show builds towards an inspirational climax which may be surprisingly political for any audience members who were just expecting a few laughs (and they’ll get more than a few here) – indeed, those may be precisely the people who need too ee this show. Capitalism pervades our lives at all levels, and ignorance of the entrenched bureaucracy and jargon is no defence. In their own high-energy, proudly queer and unrepentently rebellious way, BOY Theatre are fighting the good fight against late-stage capitalism. We all need to join that fight.
