Fearless character comedy as Cameron Sinclair Harris’s bride awaits husband-to-be Nathaniel at the altar. You are cordially invited to laugh, cry, and bear witness to gothic-clown greatness.

The fringes of the Fringe are often where you’ll discover something that blows your mind – the repurposed pizza restaurant backrooms, the Leith Road basements, or (in this case) the karaoke room above a Shanghai Chinese restaurant cum karaoke bar are where you’ll find either the ‘next big thing’ or, even more magical, the ‘thing that defies stupid attempts at ranking the bigness of things’.

Cameron Sinclair Harris is doing something truly wondrous in this space (the physical space, and the genre space) – so wondrous, indeed, that we’re reviewing a work in progress. Honestly, Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace doesn’t feel like a WIP – it’s a magical, absurd, weird embrace of a show, thoroughly engrossing and fearlessly performed.

The wedding as historically a heteronormative concept is relentlessly queered and questioned. The audience participation elements – in the roles of bridesmaids, best man, vicar, and father of the bride – are designed to keep you at ease as well as drawing you into a deceptively emotive narrative, rather than to cause embarrassment of anxiety. As the unnamed bride’s big day (spoiler alert) slowly unravels, you’re along for the ride as a witness and sympathetic shoulder to cry on.

Sinclair Harris impressively maintains character throughout, also doubling as their own tech support, and gives a physical and emotional performance which blurs the line between character comedy, clowning, performance art and drag. There are singalongs, sympathetic embraces, charades, and lemons. There are tears, and there is so much laughter. There is all the weirdness that makes us human, and makes life worth living. Will Nathaniel turn up? Do we really care if Nathaniel turns up? How many times can a bride walk the aisle before somebody stages an intervention? Don’t expect answers – just be there.

Cameron Sinclair Harris delivers one of the standout performances at the 2026 Fringe – karaoke rooms have never been this much fun.
