Sh!t Theatre’s JSA, Unskinny Bop Prom & more at BGWMC
Working Men’s Clubs aren’t just for ageing, beer & nicotine sodden, pigeon-fancying gentlemen in flat caps you know. At least not in Bethnal Green they’re not. As if proof were needed, July sees a plethora of fun and games for lovers of cabaret, music and partying!
First up is the London premier of Sh!t Theatre’s JSA (Job Seekers Anonymous), a unique and humorous exploration of the (un)employment situation in the UK today. Expect song, satire and sharing of stories… This will be followed by an Office Party for the Unemployed #1, with dodgy DJs, party games and awkward conversation for the unemployed, unemployables and friends! Claim your funseeker’s allowance on Thursday 5 July, 8pm – 1am. Tickets are £6, with concessions at £4.
Next up is the Unskinny Bop Prom! The prom night of your dreams, featuring 3 rooms of high school entertainment, slow dances, dressin’ up and disco fun, with the promise of a big room full of dancing queers, lovingly handcrafted decorations and musical joy, can be found on Saturday 7 July, 9pm – 2am. Tickets are £7 advance, £5 concessions, £10 on the door.
Also on the 5th July downstairs, it’s time to visit The Moon Hop, a monthly social club celebrating Jamaican music from calypso, through ska and rocksteady to roots reggae. This month’s speciality is Malphino, London’s freshest Cumbia, Forró and Samba quintet, in the authentic 50’s/60’s acoustic style. Eat Caribbean food! Play dominoes, darts and boardgames! Best of all, FREE ENTRY!!! Join the party from 7pm-1am (no entry after midnight).
