Baby Lame's RIOT

Baby Lame’s RIOT – Review – ★★★★★

Baby Lame’s RIOT! | Shipwright | £15

Baby Lame’s ultimate punk drag vaudeville revue took over Deptford’s secret riverside venue Shipwright for a RIOT of delicious debauchery.

The eclectic range of acts ranged from powerhouse punk band Pink Suits to ultimate riot grrrl performance artist Midgitte Bardot, who had us guffawing with her filthy poetry!

Chiyo continued to smash stereotypes with their crowd-pleasing, funk-fuelled, Prince-themed mashup, while Evelyn Carnate and Izzy Alright provided burlesque thrills.

Baby Lame was the punk DIY hostess with the mostest, and proved yet again that she is in a drag league of her own. She warmed up a slightly-too-chilled audience through sheer passion and power of personality, and kept that mood high all night.

The venue itself – something of a hidden gem, hidden away behind high walls and (usually) imposing security gates was a star performer itself. The garden looked beautiful as darkness fell, and thankfully the rain stayed away (otherwise, this could’ve been a washout). It will be interesting to see what happens next, given the impending redevelopment of the surrounding area (formally the Deptford Dockyard).
