3 Hot New & RevAMPed London Music Venues
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
We’re happy to report that despite many closures there is some hope for new and supercharged London music venues!
Let’s have a good gawp at these sonispheres…
The Garage

With a long and rich history, The Garage has been regarded as one of London’s landmark venues. This editor was proud to see one of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ first gigs in the UK there and danced on the speakers at Upstairs at the Garage as a teenager. And the programme seems to be keeping to the DIY with gigs from the likes of queer punks PWR BTTM and Melt-Banana coming up soon.
The venue, owned by The DHP Family, has been transformed whilst maintaining the large legendary live music main room, has been equipped with new sound system, decor and bar, and has reinvigorated the intimate gig space ‘Thousand Island’ upstairs taking on a new identity (see our main pic above).
Borderline
Borderline has a place in most gig goers hearts with artists performing there including R.E.M, PJ Harvey and Rolling Stones. DHP (makers of Oslo in Hackney) have once again collaborated with its previous design partners Zopsigog, whom they worked with on Oslo, and the Borderline’s 300 capacity layout has been altered to create a flowing space that provides the best possible experience for both performer and audience, from dancefloor to green room.
The revamp aims to reestablish the Borderline as the definitive central London location to watch tomorrow’s best new music alongside current rising stars whilst not forgetting its rich heritage of spotlighting key international artists and significant underplays. The venue will host a variety of club nights, including the ever-popular ‘Tilted’ which continues the venue’s history with indie and alternative acts, playing the best playlist of guitar-orientated music each Saturday.
OMEARA
With a potentially pretentious abstract muso led raison d’etre we knew that this venue was run by musicians themselves:
OMEARA IS SOMEWHERE TO BE WHEN YOU’RE LOOKING TO BE ELSEWHERE. A SPRAWLING FOREIGN LAND WITH LIFE AND LOVE IN THE FABRIC OF ITS BEING.
Mumford and Sons band member Ben Lovett opened the venue in London’s new creative district Flat Iron Square in autumn 2016.
